The 9th Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF) scheduled to run between April 13 and 20, will focus on this year's celebration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the BIFF organizing committee announced on Thursday.

A heavyweight panel discussion on the theme "My homeland and my country" will be held on April 14 at the Beijing International Hotel.

"Concerns about our country and its people have always been at the heArt of our traditional culture, which further inspires our sense of identity, belonging, obligation and mission," said Chen Mingjie, deputy chairman of the BIFF organizing committee.

The BIFF will host a number of forums on Art movies, film technologies, the international film market and the rise of internet movies. A dialogue focusing on future cooperation will also be held between Chinese and Indian filmmakers.

Inspired by the latest Chinese science fiction movie "the Wandering EArth," the BIFF organizers will also offer opportunities for film aficionados to experience firsthand state-of-the-Art technologies in filmmaking. Visitors, for example, will be able to "live" in a model space capsule while wearing astronaut uniforms tailored for actors.

A total of 775 films from 85 countries and regions are vying for the annual BIFF's 10 Tiantan Awards, including those for best actor, director, cinematography and screenplay.

From April 6, nearly 500 movies in 16 categories comprising Panorama Special: Adventure of Great Cinematic Times, New Wave Echo, Tribute: Akira Kurosawa and Tribute: Legend of Louis Cha will be released in Beijing's 30 cinemas, including Megabox China (Sanlitun and Zhongguancun), Beijing Broadway Cinematheque and Poly Cinemas. The screenings will take place in a span of 15 days.

Tickets for the BIFF films will be available at Taopiaopiao (dianying.taobao.com), an exclusive ticketing franchise company. The BIFF signed a three-year contract on March 21 with Taopiaopiao to facilitate ticket sales for this major event.
