What does government work report say about China's tourism development

The second session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) opened in Beijing on Tuesday. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang delivered a government work report, reviewing the achievements of 2018 and looking at goals for the year ahead.

The report directly put forward the requirements of developing and expanding tourism industry and promoting the reform and development of cultural programs.

2018 in review

Premier Li said consumption continued to play an increasing role in driving economic growth and the service sector's contribution to growth approached 60 percent.

Speaking of breakthroughs, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a significant headway of China's opening-up, under which people-to-people exchanges have gathered momentum.

Another 4,100 kilometers of high-speed railways opened to traffic, and over 6,000 kilometers of expressways and more than 300,000 kilometers of roads were built or improved.

Tasks in 2019

The report proposes to fully leverage the basic role of consumption and the key role of investment, stabilize effective domestic demand and thus boost stable economic performance.

China is aiming to develop new consumption modes, and promote the integration of online and offline consumption. Strengthen the protection of consumers' rights, and ensure worry-free and convenient consumption.

Speed up the development of social programs to better ensure and improve living standards to enrich the intellectual and cultural life of our people,the report said.

It also delivered the idea that the protection and use of cultural relics and the preservation of intangible cultural heritage will be strengthened. China will promote reform and development of cultural programs and industries and build stronger public service capacity at the community level. People-to-people and cultural exchanges with other countries will be boosted.
