China's Beijing Municipal Trade and Commerce Bureau has donated 2,000 test kits to Nepal to help fight COVID-19.

The donations were handed over to Nepali Embassy in Beijing on Wednesday. The donation was made by the Chinese company as gift to the Nepal government.

According to International Investment and Cooperation Consulting Services Company Pvt. Ltd., which works on behalf of Beijing Municipal Trade and Commerce Bureau in Kathmandu, the test kits have been gifted considering the lack of enough test facilities in Nepal.

Hari Prasad Dhungana, Chairman of the company, informed APD that the donation is a gesture of friendship between the two countries.

It has been reported that one test kit can test one patient, which means 2,000 people can be directly benefitted by this assistance. The test kits are worth 30,000 U.S. dollars.

According to the Nepali Embassy in Beijing, the supplies will reach to China's Tibet on Thursday itself, and then will be sent to Nepal through land route.

The test kits come as gift as Nepal lacks enough testing capacity, while it has only single lab National Public Health Laboratory based in capital Kathmandu for coronavirus tests.

Nepal has so far tested 687 samples since January, among which 684 were negative, and three cases are positive.
