The following are a selection of shows in Beijing for The coming week:

The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark

Date: March 30-April 2

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Place: Poly Theater

Introduction:

Hamlet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare. Its new Chinese version stars renowned Chinese actors Hu Jun and Pu Cunxin, and is directed by Li Liuyi, a highly reputed director in international Theater circles. Translation of The play is part of The Shakespeare folio translation project by The Royal Shakespeare Company of The United Kingdom.

Orchestre de la Suisse Romande

Date: April 4

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Place: National Center for The Performing Arts

Introduction:

Founded in 1918, The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande has built an international reputation thanks to its historic recordings and its interpretation of 20th century French and Russian repertories. Works of Schumann and Mahler will be played at The concert, which is conducted by Jonathan Nott.

Ghetto

Date: April 5-7

Time: 7 p.m.

Place: Capital Theater

Introduction:

The play written by Israeli playwright Joshua Sobol is about The experiences of The Jews of The Vilna Ghetto during Nazi occupation in World War II. The story is based on real people and historic events in The ghetto.

Exhibition of work by Marina Abramovic

Date: March 16-June 15 (closed on Mondays)

Time: 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Place: Light Society (Guangshe) Photography Center

Introduction:

A renowned Serbian performance artist, writer and art film producer, Marina Abramovic has pioneered performances as a visual art form. Most of The works exhibited in Beijing, including video, photographs and sculpture, have never been displayed in China before.
