Huge fire engulfs high-rise building in Dhaka

A massive fire broke out in a high-rise commercial BUILDING in the upmarket commercial district of Banani in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Thursday afternoon, leaving an unknown number of people trapped.

People were shouting for help from windows and several jumped out of the burning tower, according to local media the Daily Star.

The blaze, according to a fire department official, broke out at about 1:00 p.m. local time on Thursday on the 7th floor.

As many as 13 fire-fighting units have been dispatched to put out the blaze.

No exact number of casualties, if any, has been reported so far. The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
