TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Carlos Queiroz will mark his 100th match as head coach of Iran's national soccer team in the game against Japan on Monday.

The Portuguese reaches the milestone when the Iranian national soccer team, or Team Melli, take on Japan at the 2019 AFC Asian Cup semifinals, according to Tehran Times daily.

Queiroz took over Iran national team in April 2011. Team Melli defeated Madagascar 1-0 in a friendly match in his first match as Iran coach.

Under tutelage of Queiroz, Iran have won 60 matches and suffered 12 losses. Team Melli have also registered 27 draws.

The 65-year-old steered the team to back-to-back qualifications for the World Cup for the first time in Iran's history.

Queiroz was also coaching Iran national football team in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, where they lost to Iraq in a penalty shootout at the competition's quarterfinals.

The ex-Real Madrid coach is the longest serving coach in the history of Iran's national soccer team.

Team Melli are going to make a history in the Asian Cup after 43 years. Enditem
