Palestine to form new unity gov't soon: sources

RAMALLAH, Jan. 25 (Xinhua) -- A New News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian unity News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government will be formed soon to replace the current consensus News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government headed by Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah, News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian sources said Friday.

The sources said on condition of anonymity that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah Party Central Committee made the decision during meetings held over the past two days.

The New unity News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government will include New prime minister and ministers who represent the PLO factions, they added.

"The decision was finally made after all the efforts of achieving reconciliation with Islamic Hamas movement had failed," said the sources, referring to an internal News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian split that has been going on since 2007.

The major mission of the unity News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government, according to the sources, is to prepare for the News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian parliamentary elections within six months in accordance to a verdict of the News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian Constitutional Court last month.

Last December, Abbas announced that the court had decided to dissolve the News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian Legislative Council, and called for holding New parliamentary elections within six months.

Hamas, which has been ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, opposed the court verdict and insisted that the News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian elections must involve parliament, presidency and the PLO at the same time.

The sources did not reveal who will be the New prime minister and the ministers in the New unity News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government.

"The decision is in the hands of President Abbas, who will start soon his consultations with the factions to form the News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government," the sources noted.

The current News.cn/tag/i0xkmgnbc9b106b5428398/index.html" target="_blank">Palestinian consensus News.cn/tag/i0xgkzg6e6c9c496e3149a/index.html" target="_blank">government was formed in mid-2014 in accordance to a reconciliation agreement reached in Gaza in the house of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh.
