LJUBLJANA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- A total of 9,149 illegal crossings of the state border were recorded in Slovenia last Year, which is almost a five-fold increase compared to the Year before (1,934), local media reported Wednesday.

The biggest increase was recorded with the citizens of Pakistan, said the report by the Slovenian Press Agency STA, citing the police and the interior ministry sources.

After the Pakistanis, the second and third biggest number of persons who were detected crossing the national border illegally were from Afghanistan and Algeria.

The police also noted that it is possible that one person could get more than one caught crossing the border illegally.

The number of illegal crossings of the border increased significantly in April and May last Year, mostly because of the more favourable weather and a new route opening up across Bosnia-Herzegovina, according to STA. Enditem
