The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) have secured 21,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s fuel supply amid ongoing global energy challenges.

The procurement is expected to help stabilize the domestic supply of LPG, which is widely used by households and businesses across the Philippines. The shipment is scheduled to arrive between May 20 and 31 and will be discharged in Batangas.

Officials said the additional supply will boost the country’s LPG inventory and provide a buffer against potential disruptions in the global energy market. The move comes as the Philippines continues to deal with the effects of international fuel supply instability, particularly due to geopolitical tensions affecting major oil-producing regions.

The DOE emphasized that ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply remains a priority, especially as many Filipinos depend on LPG for daily cooking and small-scale business operations. Coordination between government agencies and industry stakeholders is ongoing to maintain supply security and protect consumers.

Recent developments in the global energy landscape have underscored the importance of diversifying supply sources. By sourcing LPG from the United States, the government aims to reduce reliance on traditional suppliers and mitigate risks associated with supply disruptions.

Authorities also noted that maintaining sufficient fuel reserves is critical in managing price volatility and ensuring continued access to essential energy resources. As global uncertainties persist, proactive measures such as this procurement are seen as key to safeguarding the country’s energy security.
