Chinese investigators arrived in Pakistan on 29 March 2024 (Friday) to participate in the investigation of Tuesday's tragic suicide attack in Bisham, which resulted in the loss of six lives, including five Chinese nationals, as reported by the interior ministry.
The unfortunate incident occurred when five Chinese engineers, along with their Pakistani driver, fell victim to a suicide bombing while commuting between Islamabad and a hydroelectric dam construction site in Dasu, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The attack took place in Bisham, a city within the Shangla district of KP.
Following the attack, China promptly urged for a thorough investigation into the blast and demanded enhanced security measures for its citizens in Pakistan. In response, Islamabad pledged a swift and thorough investigation to hold all those involved accountable.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with a delegation of Chinese investigators at the Beijing embassy in Islamabad, where he briefed them on the progress of the investigation so far, as stated by a ministry statement cited by Reuters.
During the meeting, Naqvi assured the Chinese team of investigators that every effort would be made to ensure the perpetrators of the attack are brought to justice. Discussions also encompassed measures aimed at bolstering the protection of Chinese nationals and overall security. Furthermore, Naqvi met with the Chinese ambassador to provide updates on the ongoing investigation into the incident.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian outlined the coordinated efforts between China's inter-departmental working group, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, and relevant enterprises. Director Bai Tian of the Department of Foreign Security Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the delegation and held meetings with Pakistani officials to emphasize the necessity for a swift and thorough investigation. Director Bai Tian stressed the importance of strengthening security measures to eliminate any existing risks and ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects in Pakistan.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to investigating the incident comprehensively and implementing enhanced security measures for Chinese nationals and projects. The joint investigation team established by the government underscored its determination to combat terrorism effectively and bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
In a gesture of solidarity, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza extended condolences on behalf of the Pakistani army to the victims of the attack. General Mirza reiterated Pakistan's responsibility to safeguard Chinese citizens within its borders and affirmed the nation's commitment to strengthening security measures for Chinese personnel, institutions, and projects. He emphasized that any attempt to undermine the robust friendship between Pakistan and China would not succeed.
Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong expressed gratitude for Pakistan's efforts and urged expedited follow-up actions to ensure a fruitful investigation, arrests of the culprits, counter-terrorism measures, and strengthened security. He emphasized China's unwavering support for comprehensive strategic cooperation with Pakistan.
The recent attack in Bisham, along with preceding assaults targeting Chinese interests, highlighted escalating security challenges facing Chinese projects and personnel in Pakistan. Despite concerns, both Pakistan and China remain steadfast in their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The bond between China and Pakistan traces back to the early 1950s, culminating in the establishment of formal diplomatic relations on May 21, 1951. This friendship has flourished on sturdy foundations, permeating every aspect of life and earning the distinctive title of "Iron Brothers," a term uniquely reserved for Pakistan. United in their resolve against terrorism, both nations are steadfast in their commitment to nurturing mutual prosperity and security.
This enduring relationship is characterized by comprehensive trust, boundless friendship, and unbreakable ties forged on the bedrock of genuine camaraderie. Attempts to sow seeds of discord between these two brotherly nations are futile, as their solidarity only grows stronger over time. Together, they stand resolute in thwarting any efforts aimed at disrupting the cherished bond of China-Pakistan friendship.
China remains steadfast in its dedication to advancing bilateral cooperation and propelling the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) through high-quality development in collaboration with Pakistan. Despite the tragic Dasu terrorist attack, efforts to sabotage this collaborative endeavor will be in vain. China's commitment to supporting Pakistan's socioeconomic development and enhancing the well-being of its people remains unwavering. Projects continue unhindered, with no interruptions or layoffs, underscoring the resilience of the partnership. Any setbacks only serve to highlight the failure of those who seek to undermine the China-Pakistan relationship.
It is imperative that the adversaries of China-Pakistan friendship refrain from testing the depth and resilience of this bond, as their nefarious designs are destined to fail. While mourning the loss of precious lives, a thorough investigation is underway, and the findings will be promptly disclosed. Strict action must be taken against all perpetrators, including those orchestrating, facilitating, and supporting terrorist activities. Terrorism is a global scourge that demands concerted efforts from all nations to eradicate it. Pakistan, having borne the brunt of terrorism for nearly four decades, remains committed to combating this menace through collaborative endeavors.
China-Pakistan friendship stands as a beacon of solidarity and cooperation, unwavering in the face of adversity. As both nations navigate challenges and strive for progress, their shared commitment to peace, prosperity, and mutual respect remains steadfast.
