APD | Government Calls on the People to Remain Calm after the Strong Tremblor

MANILA,Apr.22(APD) – Presidential Spokesman and Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador H. Panelo said the government, through the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is closely monitoring the situation after a strong 6.1-magnitude shook Zambales and other parts of the country’s main island of Luzon.
In a statement released at 10:36 P.M., Secretary Panelo called on the general public to remain calm but vigilant as he urged the citizens to refrain from spreading disinformation in social media that may cause undue harm, panic and stress to many people.
“We call upon our citizens’ innate Bayanihan (concerted community effort) spirit and request their cooperation, patience and understanding in this time of need,” Secretary Panelo said.
Concerned agencies are already responding and assisting those in troubled conditions and shall continue as long as necessary. He added the first responders are the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Office of Civil Defense, Philippine National Police and other related agencies.
“The Departments of Transportation and Energy are also on full alert to respectively address issues on disruption of transportation services and power supply interruptions,” the spokesman concluded.
