Ballet pays tribute to female revolutionaries
The National Ballet of China has presented a show dedicated to women in the cause of the Chinese revolution to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
"Yimeng, A Ballet in Three Chapters" is being performed at the Beijing Tianqiao Theatre from April 19 to 22.
In three parts -- "Bridge under fire," "The virgin bride" and "Passions of Yimeng," the ballet portrays courageous women of Yimeng Mountains in present-day Shandong Province who made sacrifices of themselves and their families for the revolution that eventually led to the birth of New China.
"We put this through after two years of meticulous preparation," said Feng Ying, head of the ballet. "We want to pay tribute to the Yimeng heroines and champion their spirits of struggle, dedication and perseverance."
