The World Health organization has condemned Saturday's attack on a hospital in the DR Congo.

The attack was the second in two days targeting Ebola treatment centers and hospitals in the region.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said the attacks were hampering efforts to tackle the spread of Ebola in the DR Congo.

“Appalled by another attack on health workers saving lives in DR Congo. The violence not only disrupts vital Ebola outbreak response but also creates risk of disease spread,” Tedros said on Sunday.

One militant was killed and four were arrested after the attack on the Katwa hospital in Butembo city located in the northern province of North Kivu.

The attack came just a day after a WHO doctor was shot dead in another raid by armed militia on Butembo University Hospital.

The latest Ebola outbreak in the DR Congo was declared in August 2018.

More than 1,200 confirmed and probable cases of Ebola have been recorded since the outbreak began, with more than 760 deaths confirmed.
