Beijing Guoan in wonderland as Zhang Yuning secures sixth win in a row
Beijing Guoan extended the team's winning streak to six as they maintained a perfect start after edging out Hebei China Fortune 1-0 in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Saturday.
Guoan, who have 18 points from their six matches, equalized the best start of the CSL in history.
Neither of the sides scored in the first half as Zhang Yuning's close-range header was blocked by the goalkeeper. The 22-year-old fired Guoan ahead by smashing the decisive ball into the net in the 65th minutes, giving the league leaders three points edge over the second-placed Guangzhou Evergrand.
"It's not an easy win for us and I am so glad to see all players fight like a unit for the victory. I'm proud of them," said Roger Schmidt, the head coach of Beijing Guoan.
In Saturday's two other games, Tianjin TEDA moved up to fourth in the table after edging Henan Jianye 3-2 while Beijing Renhe drew 0-0 with Shenzhen.
Henan Jianye recovered from two goals down and almost earned a 2-2 draw, but Frank Acheampong scored the winning goal on 75 minutes for Tianjin TEDA.
"It's good to win, but we should have done better when we lead 2-0," the coach of TEDA Uli Stielike said, "we need to analysis the problems after the match."
