Weekly snapshot of Chinese culture news
Three major museums in Beijing, including the Palace Museum and the National Museum of China, will take part in an exhibition held at a cultural festival in Xiong'an New Area, Hebei Province from April 26 to 28.
The museums will display cultural relics and creative cultural products at the festival. Performances will also be staged at the festival to showcase intangible cultural heritage of Xiong'an.
-- Copies of historic Palace Museum royal lanterns sold for 10.6 million yuan at charity auction
A pair of historically accurate Heavenly Lanterns (tian deng) created by the Palace Museum sold for 10.6 million yuan (1.58 million U.S. dollars) at a charity auction Tuesday. The lanterns were accurate copies based on archives from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and used at the museum's special exhibition for Spring Festival this year.
At the same auction, a pair of Longevity Lanterns (wanshou deng) and five pairs of smaller royal lanterns were sold.

Ten young Chinese film directors have been selected to join in a program that offers whole-industry-chain support.
Under the program hosted by the China Film Director's Guild, the young directors will get help in script development, production, financing, publicity and distribution of their first feature films.

An international documentary consortium focusing on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was launched at a documentary forum in Beijing Wednesday.
The new consortium, BriDoc, is an international cooperation mechanism on documentaries among countries participating in the initiative.
-- Palace Museum joins hands with People's Daily
The Palace Museum has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with People's Daily to promote various cooperation on the integration of culture and media, the newspaper reported Wednesday.
According to the agreement, the Palace Museum will be able to present its cultural resources to the public via the People's Daily's printed newspaper as well as its website, app and official WeChat account.
