APD | Sri Lanka destroys over 769 kg of cocaine

COLOMBO, April 1 (APD) – Sri Lanka on Monday destroyed over 769 kg of cocaine seized by the law enforcement agencies.
The cocaine was destroyed at a warehouse in Sapugaskanda, located just outside the capital Colombo.
Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena witnessed the cocaine being destroyed at the event which was open to the media.
Judges and other officials were also present during the event.
The cocaine was mixed in cement at the event and was later be taken to Puttalam in North Western Sri Lanka where it will be incinerated.
The cocaine is said to be worth over Sri Lankan Rs.10.9 billion.
This was the second time a large quantity of cocaine was destroyed publicly.
