BEIJING, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China is to take the "toilet revolution" CAMPAIGN for clean toilets to the country's medical institutions, according to a Circular released by the health and medical authorities.

With toilets at grassroots medical institutions as the focus, the CAMPAIGN aims to improve infrastructure, enhance long-term sanitation management and ensure up-to-standard cleaning of such sites, said the Circular, jointly issued by the National Health Commission and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Toilets at these sites must be cleaned and sterilized on a regular basis, the Circular said, stressing that in times of intestinal infectious diseases epidemics, the sterilization work must be intensified, and the sewage disposal process should also follow special regulations.

It also demanded improved toilet infrastructure for the convenience of patients, especially the elderly, pregnant women and children, and encouraged the use of energy-conservation and emission-reduction facilities and materials in the toilets.
