PSG stay in French women's league title contention with Rodez win
PARIS, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Paris Saint-Germain have been involved in a white hot title contention in French women's football league after breezing past bottom side Rodez 3-0 at home on Sunday.
Lyon were held to a 1-1 draw away to Fleury 91. PSG manage to go level on points with Lyon with inferior goal difference.
The title contention is set to gain momentum with three rounds to go. The followed up head-to-head between PSG and Lyon on April 13 will undoubtedly be decisive for the duo.
Grace Geyoro fired a powerful shot home to move PSG ahead as early as the fourth minute after Rodez defenders failed to clear Chinese footballer Wang Shuang's corner kick.
Rodez almost leveled the score moments later, but their forward Flavie Lemaitre shot wide from a close range.
Wang's delivery from the left wing gifted Irene Paredes a comfortable header at the stroke of halftime.
PSG maintained their dominance after the restart. Nadia Nadim swept the ball at target to extend PSG's advantage in the 55th minute. Her Danish compatriot Signe Bruun had a long-range shot parried by Rodez goalkeeper onto the crossbar two minutes later.
Wang, replaced by Kadidiatou Diani with 10 minutes remaining, will fly back to China on Monday to join the national team for an international competition in her hometown Wuhan, as part of the Steel Roses' preparation for the FIFA Women's World Cup this summer in France.
