Saudi FM calls for reforming mechanisms of joint Arab action
TUNIS, March 29 (Xinhua) -- The Saudi foreign minister on Friday called for reforming the mechanisms of joint Arab action to achieve an effective Arab League.
"There is a need to reform and promote the mechanisms of joint Arab action to enable the Arab League to fulfill its mission effectively," said Ibrahim al-Assaf.
He made the remarks during the Arab foreign ministers' preparatory meeting for the 30th Arab Summit.
In his speech, al-Assaf pointed out that Saudi Arabia placed the Palestinian cause at the heart of the Arab priorities.
Regarding the U.S. recognition of the Golan Heights as part of Israel, the Saudi minister said his country rejects U.S. President Donald Trump's declaration on the occupied Golan, which is "a Syrian Arab land."
"The U.S. decision will have negative consequences for the Middle East peace process and the security and stability of the Arab region in general," he warned, saying Saudi Arabia supports Syria's territorial integrity.
The Saudi minister also praised the efforts of the United Nations in Yemen, Syria and Libya.
