Uganda's annual inflation remains at 3 percent in March
KAMPALA, march 29 (Xinhua) -- The slower increase in prices of goods and services has seen Uganda registering annual headline inflation rate at 3.0 percent in march, the same level as in February.
Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) said on Friday the annual core inflation, which the central bank uses to control the country's level of inflation at 5 percent, rose to 4.6 percent for the year ending in march compared with 3.7 percent registered for the year ending February.
"The increase in annual core inflation was offset by deceleration in annual food crops and related items inflation that registered a minus 9.9 percent for the year ending march 2019 compared to the minus 4.4 percent registered for the year ended February 2019," UBOS' Principal Statistician Vincent Nsubuga told reporters.
Nsubuga said the annual Energy, Fuel, and Utilities inflation decreased to 5.3 percent for the year ending march 2019 compared to the 5.9 percent recorded for the year ended February 2019.
The decline in annual EFU inflation is mainly due to Annual Liquid Energy Fuels inflation that registered 5.5 percent for the year ending march 2019 compared with 8.0 percent recorded for the year ended February 2019. Enditem
