8 in 10 Greeks see risk of new financial crisis looming: poll

A total of 80.9 percent of respondents to the survey carried out by polling firm RASS for the news.cn/en/tag/i0xngaj3163f76200c981b/index.html" target="_blank">news website In.gr expressed concern that a news.cn/en/tag/i0xngaj3163f76200c981b/index.html" target="_blank">new crisis was on the horizon.

Only 16.5 percent of respondents said that they believed that Greece had left the troubles behind and had entered a period of stability.

The survey was conducted on news.cn/en/tag/i0xngaj3163f76200c981b/index.html" target="_blank">news.cn/en/tag/i0xkgdnff7cd4cd228b1c0/index.html" target="_blank">march 26-28 on a sample of 1,005 voters.

The majority of those polled said they would vote for the main opposition conservative news.cn/en/tag/i0xngaj3163f76200c981b/index.html" target="_blank">new Democracy (ND) party if elections were held this weekend.

Greeks will go to the ballots on May 26 to elect their representatives in the European Parliament and will vote in a national election in the coming months as the current government's term ends in October 2019.

According to RASS, the ND party would garner 30.8 percent of votes in parliamentary elections against 21.7 percent for the ruling radical leftist SYRIZA party. The center-left Movement for Change (KINAL) and the Greek Communist Party (KKE) would follow with 9.7 percent and 7.3 percent, respectively, while the ultra-right Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi) would get 7.1 percent of the vote.

According to a European Parliament press release, the polls show that the ND party would also win the upcoming European elections.

The ND is projected to receive 36.1 percent support (9 seats) and SYRIZA 23.9 percent (6 seats). KINAL and Golden Dawn would get two seats each, garnering 7.7 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively.

KKE would win 6.4 percent and the Greens 3.1 percent (1 seat each).
