SARAJEVO, March 28 (Xinhua) -- After seven months of intensive training, 100 cadets of the border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) were promoted on Thursday to the rank of Police officer in Mostar, a city 130 kilometers southwest of the capital, local media reported.

At the ceremony, Slobodan Krstic, assistant to the director of BiH border Police, said the 100 Police officers are the best from the 2,000 candidates.

Given the increasing number of migrants illegally crossing the border to enter the country, the newly appointed Police officers would be in charge of surveillance and border check, said Krstic.

They have gained basic legal knowledge necessary for the job, and learned about weapon handling, shooting skills, tactics and self-defense techniques.

A regular session of the country's Council of Ministers on Thursday revealed that from Jan. 1 to March 25 this year, a total of 3,323 illegal migrants had entered the BiH territory.
