CBA: Guangdong takes Game 2 victory in playoffs
In the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) playoffs, regular season winners the Guangdong Southern Tigers hosted the Jiangsu Dragons for game Two of their quarter-final series, and just like in the first game which was a 29 point blowout, they dominated again with seven players scoring double figures.
Before the tip-off,Guangdong's Yi Jianlian was awarded as the league's best defender:"First of all, I want to thank coach Du Feng who always told us that young players should focus on defense first, so I worked hard on that. And then I want to thank my teammates, who never pass balls to me, so I can only focus on defense, and now I've got this award... I'm joking. And thanks to the fans who support us, thank you," said Yi.
Guangdong began the game well. Sonny Weems set up Ren Junfei to make it 7-0 to the Southern Tigers. Recently crowned best defender Yi put the hosts in front by 15 just before the end of the first quarter.
Ren scored 17 points this game and helped his side to a 16 point lead. The Southern Tigers continued to dominate in the third quarter.
Donald Sloan scored 33 points for Jiangsu including the last three, but Guandong wins by a bunch, 141-99 for a 2-0 series lead.
