APD | Indonesia resumes annual fashion extravaganza

JAKARTA, Mar.28 (APD) -- Indonesia’s capital resumed the annual Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) extravaganza this year, highlighting culture of Kalimantan to inspire national Fashion products.
The event themed “Cultural Values” that runs from Wednesday to Sunday is highly expected to dig more of Kalimantan traditional culture motives which is less explored in national Fashion industry.
“Kalimantan actually offers myriad of cultural motives from many indigenous tribes inhabiting the island for generations. Besides that, its traditional motives derived from local plantations and animals are highly inspirable for national Fashion designers,” IFW Chief Organizer Poppy Dharsono said in her remarks to open the event landmark convention center of JCC here on Wednesday.
To emphasize Kalimantan culture in the event, IFW organizer designed all functions, including the catwalks and exhibition booths with Kalimantan traditional motives.
Themes of workshops and seminars held during the 5-day event would also discuss ways to further implement Kalimantan cultural motives in national Fashion industry.
The nation’s largest Fashion event is participated by tens of local Fashion designers eager to showcase their latest collections.
Fashion industry is major driver to Indonesia’s creative economy sector in the last several years. Export value of national Fashion-related industry has contributed 54.54 percent to overall export in the sector amounted US$ 20 billion in 2016.
The IFW that has been running since 2012 was originally intended to further boost the highly potential Fashion industry to seize more domestic and international markets.
