Budapest, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport has been chosen as the "best Airport of Eastern Europe" for the sixth time in a row, the Airport announced here on Thursday.

"This year, for the sixth consecutive year, Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport has been awarded the title of best Airport of Eastern Europe," the Airport of the Hungarian capital declared in a statement.

"The award awarded by Skytrax is one of the most prestigious awards in the aviation industry, and it is the first time in the history of the prize that the title has been awarded to a regional Airport six time in a row," the statement added.

Over the past year, Skytrax has conducted an aerodrome appraisal survey of 13 million passengers from 160 different countries.

"This is one of the most prestigious professional awards we have achieved in international aviation and one of the most important feedback for us, as the passengers themselves have decided on the winner. The award also obliges us: we are now working to further expand our services and increase the convenience of Airport travel," said Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport.

Budapest Airport had a record year in 2018. It handled nearly 15 million passengers, up 13.5 percent from 2017.
