Greece supports Lebanon's sovereignty, regional interests
BEIRUT, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Greek Ambassador to Lebanon Francisco Faros said that his country supports Lebanon's independence, sovereignty and regional interests, the National News Agency reported on Wednesday.
"Greece contributes in the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and it cooperates closely with the Lebanese Armed Forces, mainly by training maritime soldiers," Faros said during a ceremony held to celebrate Greece's National Day.
Faros added that his country respects the United Nations' resolutions especially resolution 1701 which was adopted by the Security Council in 2006.
He added that Lebanon is democratic and welcoming and thousands of Greek citizens enjoy living in the country.
George Eid, director of the Greek festival in Lebanon, previously told Xinhua there are around 10,000 Greek people living in Lebanon today.
