Commissioner's office of China's foreign ministry in HK rejects British report
Hong Kong, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The Office of the Commissioner of the Chinese foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Wednesday urged Britain to stop interfering in Hong Kong's internal affairs.
Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the principles of "one country, two systems," "Hong Kong people administrating Hong Kong" with a high degree of autonomy have been faithfully and successfully implemented in the region, a spokesperson for the commissioner's office said late Wednesday in response to a six-monthly report on Hong Kong issued by the British foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Hong Kong residents enjoy extensive rights and freedom never seen before, which is a universally-recongnized fact, the spokesperson said.
In the so-called report, the British side ignored and distorted the truth by deliberately confusing the legitimate and lawful measures taken by both the Chinese central government and the HKSAR government to fight against forces for "Hong Kong independence," safeguard national sovereignty and security and uphold the rule of law in Hong Kong with freedom of speech, freedom of the press and freedom of assembly, the spokesperson said.
The commissioner's office urged the British side to face squarely the reality of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, strictly abide by the basic principles of international relations and stop interfering in China's internal affairs.
