Halting imports of Canada's canola seeds scientifically-sound, reasonable: spokesperson
China said on Wednesday that its suspending imports of canola seeds from a Canadian company is scientifically-sound and reasonable, and comply with relevant CHINESE laws and regulations and international practices.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks when asked to comment on the General Administration of Customs (GAC) announcing to suspend imports from a second Canadian company on Tuesday, following a similar suspension on Richardson International earlier this month.
Geng said that "the CHINESE side has taken these precautionary quarantine measures to ensure safety."
Relevant departments in China have informed the Canadian side of the issue concerning Canada's canola seeds exports to China and kept communication on technical matters, Geng said.
As for China-Canada relations, the Canadian side should work with China to promote the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations, Geng said, adding that the Canadian side should take some concrete measures to correct its previous mistakes.
