APD | China to conduct feasibility study of Monorail in Phnom Penh

PHNOM PENH, Mar. 27 (APD) - Ministry of Public Works and Transportation said Tuesday that China will conduct a feasibility study on the monorail project in Phnom Penh city, aiming to reduce the traffic congestion.
Monorail is a railway system in which the track consists of a single rail, typically elevated and with the trains suspended from it. The term is also used to describe the beam of the system, or the vehicles traveling on such a beam or track.
In the meeting to visiting Sun Chanthol, Cambodian Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Zhou Keqin, vice Chairman, Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chongqing, Municipal, said that the China will dispatch in soon future a group of Chinese experts to Cambodia for conducting study on monorail project.
Mr. Zhou said that it is the cooperation between the Chongqing Municipal and Cambodia’s Public Works Ministry, added that the cooperation will also focus on building Cambodian human resources in logistics sector, according to a post in Ministry’s Facebook.
Sun Chanthol was quoted as saying that he expected the cooperation will contribute in transport infrastructure development in Cambodia get further developed.
The ministry spokesman Va Simsorya said Tuesday that the ministry welcomes all projects to help enhancing the transportation better.
“The company has presented this project to the ministry and now the Senior Minister Sun Chanthol is visiting China, so Chinese side confirmed their intention over the project,” Mr. Simsorya said.
“It is just a proposal of conducting feasibility study. We welcome all. If the project reach the ground breaking, we then can go in detail how benefit the project economically is,” Mr. Simsorya said.
The government has revealed that the automated gateway transit (AGT) system, an electric-powered mass transit system in Phnom Penh is being conducted of the feasibility study.
The study was conducted in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
