China's per capita spending on culture and entertainment rose to 850 yuan (126 U.S. dollars) in 2017 from 570 yuan in 2013, according to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

With growing cultural consumption demand by Chinese, the country saw a continued increase in its per capita expenditure on consumption of education, culture and entertainment products.

Chinese people's cultural and tourism consumption has evolved to become a new economic growth area in China, according to ministry officials.

Authorities in 2018 approved a total of 14,000 commercial performances on the Chinese mainland given by art troupes or performers from foreign countries or China's Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, the ministry said.

The year 2018 also saw the licensed import or export of a total of 49,366 works of art, figures showed.
