Boe sets record of 15 season wins in biathlon World Cup
OSLO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe registered a record-breaking 15th win of the season in men's 12.5km pursuit race at biathlon World Cup in Oslo on Saturday.
Just one day after tying Frenchman Martin Fourcade's record of 14 wins in a single season, Boe wrote himself in record book in 32 minutes and 15.6 seconds despite three shooting penalties.
"It is a big achievement. To make history in any sport is to know that you have done something right. Biathlon has a lot of legends before me, so to be one of them is very interesting and a very good day," Boe told the International Biathlon Union (IBU) website about his historic 15th victory.
The hosts managed a one-two finish as Boe's older brother Tarjei was 13.9 seconds behind. Germany's Arnd Peiffer completed the podium at 18.2 seconds back.
With overall, sprint and pursuit globes in pocket, Boe is expected to finish a sweep on titles on offer this season after Sunday's mass start competition.
Slovakia's Anastasiya Kuzmina shot clean to triumph women's 10km pursuit race in 28 minutes and 25.9 seconds.
The closest rival was Denise Herrmann of Germany, who lagged 1 minute and 42.8 seconds behind. Sweden's Hanna Oeberg finished third at more than two minutes back.
Italy's Dorothea Wierer finished 12th, while taking away the women's pursuit globe.
The women's overall title is up for grabs in Sunday's mass start race, as Wierer, her fellow Italian Lisa Vittozzi and Kuzmina have been involved in a three-woman contention.
