CHAMBISHI, Zambia, March 23 (Xinhua) -- The Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ) has been commended for establishing a multi-facility economic zone in Zambia's Chambishi town on the Copperbelt Province which has helped improve the living standards of people.

The residents of the town are happy with the development and have called for the establishment of more multi-facility economic zones in other parts of the country.

James Kabaso, a Chambishi resident, said a lot of people in the town have benefited from the jobs created in the multi-facility zone.

Kabaso, an employee of Chambishi Copper Smelter, said Chinese have brought about development in the Township which is solely dependent on mining as its major economic activities.

Dalitso Phiri another resident said China is helping developing countries like Zambia strengthen economic ventures for the benefit of the local people.

"China has funded most of the projects in Zambia from construction of roads and the economic zones here on the Copperbelt province," he said.

And Rashid Mulenga, mayor of Kalulushi town, said China is a good friend to Zambia which was stimulating development in various economic sectors.

Chinese enterprises have created some 8,000 jobs in the two economic zones in Zambia in Chambishi and the capital city.

Steven Lindunda, corporate affairs manager at the ZCCZ, said recently that 41 companies have invested at the economic zone in Chambishi, while 10 have invested in Lusaka.

Lindunda said over 200 million U.S. dollars have been spent so far on infrastructure development at the two multi-facility economic zones in Zambia.
