Kaepernick, Reid reportedly settle with NFL for less than $10 mln

Since Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid reached a grievance settlement with the NFL in February, the two football players were under criticism from people who suspected that they only compromised because the league paid them a huge amount of money. That rumor should be spiked as the Wall Street Journal reported that Kaepernick and Reid only received less than 10 million U.S. dollars.

Since details of the settlement between the two and the league remained undisclosed, there's no way to tell how much the NFL paid to Kaepernick and Reid. However, if the WSJ reports correctly, that number is definitely not much. Lawyer fees also had to come from the money, leaving less for the two. Besides, the guaranteed money Kaepernick received from the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 was already 11.9 million U.S. dollars. Giving up his principles for less than half of that does not make any sense.

Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report did not believe the WSJ's report. Though he did not think the settlement reached 30, 40 or even 50 million U.S. dollars as some suspected, he did not buy the "less than 10 million" number either.

Before kneeling during the national anthem in protest of racial injustice and police violence in 2016, Kaepernick was a quarterback who led the 49ers to Super Bowl. However, since he opted out his contract to become a free agent in 2017, Kaepernick never found a new job in the league. That's why he filed a grievance against the NFL and its owners, accusing them of colluding to keep him out.

Reid, Kaepernick's teammate back then with the 49ers, did not remain unsigned for that long, but he still missed the start of the 2018 season. In September 2018, he agreed to a three-year, 22 million U.S. dollar deal with the Carolina Panthers.

Kaepernick, 31, already told the public that he still wanted to continue his football career. Though so far no team expressed any interest in signing a new starting quarterback, Kaepernick may have a chance as the season goes along.
