APD | India celebrates Holi festival

NEW DELHI, March 22 (APD) - Holi, the festival of colours was celebrated across India on Thursday as leaders shared greetings with the people while some used the occasion to forward their election agenda.  

Through twitter Prime Minister NarendraModisaid,“The festival of joy and gaiety would strengthen the colour of unity and goodwill.”

In a statement, President Ram NathKovindcalled Holi is "a celebration of spring and of our sense of fraternity. On the occasion of the joyous festival of Holi, I convey my greetings to all fellow citizens in India and abroad."

"This festival is a celebration of spring and of our sense of fraternity and mutual goodwill. May the confluence of colours bring positive energy to all our families and our shared society" he further said.

Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi said, "Wishing you and your family a very Happy Holi. I pray that this festival brings colours to your life.”

Some leaders took the opportunity to make jibes and promote their election agendas. 

Former actor and politician ShatrughanSinha took a jibe at the prime minister. On twitter he criticized Modi’s recent comment on "chowkidars" or security guards and made an allusion to theRafaledeal, which is mired in controversies and corruption charges against the present government.

Referring to the prime minister as sir he said, "Happy Holi to you, Sirji. Once again I'll remind you politely but firmly that don't get into the sting of the operations of Chowkidar (security guards).”

“The more you are defensive of them, the more the Nation will be reminded of unanswered questions and the Rafale deal which people have been very desperate to know" he tweeted.
