Tokyo stocks open higher on Wall Street's gains after Fed view
Tokyo, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Friday as the market mood was lifted by wall street's rise overnight after the U.S. Federal Reserve indicated there world be no interest rate hikes this year.
As of 9:15 a.m.local time, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 78.99 points, or 0.37 percent, from Wednesday to 21,687.91.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.97 points, or 0.18 percent, to 1,617.36.
Mining, machinery and metal product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
Markets here were closed on Thursday for a national holiday.
