China's Wang Xiyu into second round at Miami Open
WASHINGTON, March 20 (Xinhua) -- China's wildcard player Wang Xiyu defeated Monica Puig of Puerto Rico to make the women's singles second round at the Miami open on Wednesday.
The 17-year-old Wang needed just one hour or so to beat Rio Olympics gold medalist Puig 6-3, 6-1. Wang converted on five out of ten break points while the 25-year-old Puig just broke her opponent once.
Wang, now ranked 190th in the world, won the US open juniors' title last year.
