Hungary's Orban, U.S. legislators discuss defense, economic cooperation

BUDAPEST, March 19 (Xinhua) -- Defense and economic issues were the focus of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's meeting here on Tuesday with a delegation of visiting U.S. legislators, official sources stated.

"Prime Minister Viktor Orban had talks with a visiting bi-party delegation of the United States Congress comprised of four senators and two representatives about the topical issues of bilateral security policy and economic cooperation and the energy supply of Hungary and the central European region," according to the Hungarian government's official website.

"The members of the delegation ... enquired about the latest challenges of our region, the Hungarian perception of the crisis in Ukraine, and U.S. investments in Hungary," the statement said.

During the meeting, the parties concluded that, against the backdrop of excellent economic and defense cooperation between Hungary and the United States, political relations have also improved significantly, said the Hungarian government.

The visit of U.S. delegation to Budapest is a follow-up to the one by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in February.

On Tuesday, the members of the delegation also met with Hungarian Finance Minister Mihaly Varga, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Levente Magyar, and Defense State Secretary Istvan Szabo.
