Jordan's lawmakers call for expelling Israeli ambassador
AMMAN, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Lower House on Monday called for expelling the Israeli ambassador from Amman and recalling the country's ambassador from Tel Aviv over Israeli violations in Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The lawmakers called on the government to reveal all details it has regarding the U.S. so-called the "Deal of the Century," and to mobilize Arab and international efforts to face any attempt by Israel to change the status quo of the holy site.
They also urged the government to address to the UN and the Arab League to take a swift action to put an end to the violations against Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Jordanian Prime Minister Omar Razzaz said in a statement to the press that Jordan deals with the latest Israeli violations in Al-Aqsa Mosque as a national issue, which requires a united national stand.
The government, he said, will continue to exert all possible efforts at the diplomatic and legal levels to ensure that there is no change to the legal and historic status quo in Jerusalem.
Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said that protection of the holy site is a priority for Jordan, according to the statement.
Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994 to become the second Arab state after Egypt to have such a deal with Israel. Enditem
