TRIPOLI, March 16 (Xinhua) -- An armed attack on Saturday killed a policeman and injured another in the southern Libyan City of Sabha, a security source said.

Gunmen on a vehicle randomly opened fire at the City's police station, killing the policeman immediately, the source said.

Two of the four gunmen were arrested. The motive of the attack is still unknown.

Late in January, the eastern-based army took over Sabha, the largest southern Libyan City.

The army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been carrying out a military campaign against terrorism and crime in the south since mid-January.

Following the 2011 uprising that toppled former leader Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been suffering escalating violence and political division between western and eastern governments. Enditem
