9 people killed in northern Nigeria

LAGOS, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Unknown gunmen on Saturday attacked a Village of Kaduna state, northwest Nigeria, killing 9 persons, officials told Xinhua.

Samuel Aruwan, spokesperson for the state governor, confirmed the attack, adding that nine were killed in the attack on Nandu-Gbok Village in Sanga area.

The attack is coming on the heels of several attack on the people of Kajuru area of the state. On Tuesday, unidentified gunmen shot dead 17 members of a local vigilante group following an attack on Jan Ruwa Village.

The attack on Nandu-Gbok was launched by yet to be identified gunmen at about 4:00 a.m local time on Saturday, according to local security personnel.

The armed men invaded the Village at the ungodly hours of Saturday, shooting sporadically at anyone on sight.

A federal lawmaker, Shehu Garba while condemning the attacks, called for urgent attention from relevant authority to protect the people.

"About 30 houses were confirmed burnt down," he added.

Kaduna is one of the states in northern Nigeria that saw a high number of attacks, with women and children being the most affected. Enditem
