Cyclone Idai batters Zimbabwe, leaves 24 dead

At least 24 people have died in southeastern Zimbabwe as homes and bridges were swept away or damaged by a tropical storm, Reuters reported on Saturday, citing the country'sinformation ministry.

Cyclone Idai has brought floodwater and destruction to areas of Mozambique and Malawi in Zimbabwe on Friday, according to the report.

It has also affected the local facilities, which cut off power and communications.

The local authorities said the rains are expected to continue for several days throughout the weekend.

The rescue mission is currently underway, according to the reports.
