India logs 898,768,978 voters: election commission data

NEW DELHI, March 15 (Xinhua) -- India has a total of 898,768,978 voters, including 467,004,861 male, 431,732,825 female and 31,292 third gender, according to the final electoral roll data released by the Election Commission of India on Friday, ahead of the forthcoming general elections in seven phases beginning April 11.

According to the data, there are 15,064,824 voters in the age group of 18 to 19 years. Electors Photo Identity Card coverage of 99.36 percent has been achieved across the country as of Friday.

The northern state of Uttar Pradesh has the most number of 144,061,892 voters, followed by southwestern state of Maharashtra with 87,329,910, eastern state of Bihar with 70,603,778 and eastern state of West Bengal with 69,765,010.

Uttar Pradesh also has the largest number of 163,331 polling stations, followed by Maharashtra with 95,473, West Bengal with 78,799 and Bihar with 72,723.
