Malta's parliament to vote nomination of new president on April 2
VALLETTA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- The Maltese Parliament will be voting to approve The nomination of former Foreign Affairs Minister George Vella as The next president on April 2.
The decision was made on Wednesday during a meeting of House Business Committee.
The vote in Parliament will be a formality as both The government and The opposition are expected to vote in favor of The nomination.
The Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced on March 5 that he had decided to submit Vella's nomination as next president following constitutional consultations.
Adrian Delia, The leader of The largest opposition party, The Nationalist Party, last week declared that it would be voting with The government to approve The nomination.
Vella is expected to be sworn in two days later on April 4.
