Chinese chess grandmaster tops int'l tournament in Vietnam
HO CHI MINH CITY, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese chess grandmaster Wang Hao ranked first at the men's event of an international chess tournament which concluded here on Wednesday.
Wang Hao (Elo 2,718) played a total of nine games, including the last one with his compatriot Wen Yang (Elo 2,599), winning the highest score of 7.5 points to become champion of the week-long tournament named HDBank Cup 2019.
Wen Yang and Stanislav from Ukraine (Elo 2,536) had the same score of 7 points.
At the women's event, Nandhidhaa from India ranked the first, followed by a Bulgarian chess player and a Vietnamese woman.
At the tournament's closing ceremony, the World chess Federation (FIDE)'s newly-elected President Arkady Dvorkovich awarded the champion cup to Wang Hao who bagged home a cash prize of 15,000 U.S. dollars.
Over 300 players from 28 countries and regions competed at HDBank Cup 2019 in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City.
