Messy, disorderly exit still clear and present danger: British Chambers of Commerce
A messy and disorderly exit on March 29 was still a clear and present danger, said the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) on Wednesday following a no-deal Brexit being ruled out in a parliament vote.
The BCC said through its website that "It's all well and good that Parliament has said it doesn't want a no-deal exit, but without concrete action, its gestures are meaningless for business."
"The reality is that without action, businesses still face an uncontrolled exit that they neither want nor are ready for," it added.
It noted that extending Article 50 was a necessity, but many businesses still feared endless uncertainty.
"A deadline that is continuously pushed back isn't a deadline, it's an invitation to cancel investment, stop hiring, or move UK operations somewhere else," it warned.
The BCC urged for a clear timeline, saying "Business needs concrete action to avoid a messy and disorderly exit in 16 days".
No-deal Brexit was completely ruled out on Wednesday night by the British parliament. MPs are expected to have a vote on delaying Brexit on Thursday.
