Chinese chess grandmaster tops int'l tournament in Vietnam
Chinese chess grandmaster Wang Hao ranked first at the men's event of an international chess tournament which concluded in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday.
Wang Hao (Elo 2,718) played a total of nine games, including the last one with his compatriot Wen Yang (Elo 2,599), winning the highest score of 7.5 points to become champion of the week-long tournament named HDBank Cup 2019.
Wen Yang and Stanislav from Ukraine (Elo 2,536) had the same score of 7 points.
At the women's event, Nandhidhaa from India ranked the first, followed by a Bulgarian chess player and a Vietnamese woman.
At the tournament's closing ceremony, the World Chess Federation (FIDE)'s newly-elected President Arkady Dvorkovich awarded the champion cup to Wang Hao who bagged home a cash prize of 15,000 U.S. dollars.
Over 300 players from 28 countries and regions competed at HDBank Cup 2019 in Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City.
