Mainland spokesperson comments on U.S. official attending meeting in Taiwan

BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson Tuesday expressed firm opposition to any countries that have diplomatic relations with China to engage in official contacts with the region of Taiwan in any forms.

An Fengshan, spokesperson with the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the comments in response to Samuel Brownback, U.S. ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom, attending a meeting in Taiwan.

"I want to reiterate that we firmly oppose any countries that have diplomatic relations with us to engage in official contacts with the region of Taiwan in any forms," An said. "Our stance is consistent and clear."
