JAKARTA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi confirmed on Monday that an Indonesian citizen was killed in the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines plane.

Retno said the killed Indonesian national in Sunday's crash was a female employee of World Food Program (WFP) and she was on a trip to Nairobi to attend UN Environment Assembly in Kenya.

She added that several Indonesian delegations are also scheduled to attend the assembly to be held in Nairobi from March 11 to 15.

The minister conveyed Indonesian government's deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the crash.

"On behalf of Indonesian government, I convey our deepest condolence related to the crash of Ethiopian Airlines' flight serving Addis Ababa to Nairobi," the minister said.

The crash of Boeing 737 Max 8 plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines took place a few minutes after the plane took off from an Addis Ababa airport.

The Ethiopian Airlines plane crash killed 157 people on board from at least 35 countries and regions. Reports said that at least 22 of the victims were employees of UN institutions.

Another Boeing 737 Max 8 jet, flown by the Indonesian budget carrier Lion Air, crashed in October last year killing all 189 people on board.
