Qatar resumes financial aid to poor families in Gaza: officials
Gaza, March 11 (Xinhua) -- A Qatari diplomat on Monday observed the distribution of financial aid to impoverished families in the Gaza Strip as part of the second installment of the Qatari grant to help poor people.
The cash grant of 5.5 million U.S. dollars will be distributed to 55,000 families all over the coastal enclave with each receiving 100 dollars, according to a statement of the Hamas-run Ministry of Social Development.
Qatari Ambassador to Palestine Mohammed al-Ammadi arrived in the Gaza Strip on Sunday night and immediately held a meeting with Hamas politburo chief Ismail Haniyeh, according to Haniyeh's office.
The two discussed the Qatari funds, the situation with Israel and ending the Israeli siege imposed on the Gaza Strip since 2007, according to Haniyeh's office statement.
The Qatari grant started in November 2018 after Egypt and the UN brokered a calm understanding in the Gaza Strip between Hamas and Israel.
