What's on in Beijing

The following are some shows available in Beijing in the coming week:

London Philharmonic Orchestra

Date: March 14

Place: National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA)

Introduction:

Works of composers including Richard Strauss, Felix Mendelssohn and Johannes Brahms will be played at the NCPA performance. Violinist Julia Fischer will lead Mendelssohn's "Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64" at the concert.

Cendrillon (Cinderella) by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo

Date: March 14-16

Place: NCPA

Introduction:

The ballet "Cendrillon" is choreographed by director Jean-Christophe Maillot. Based on the centuries-old fairy tale of the same name, the ballet takes the heroine Cinderella on a journey to find true love, with a focus on the characters' psychology.

Long Gone Dinosaurs

Date: March 1-31

Place: National Indoor Stadium

Introduction:

The science fiction show takes the audience to the world of dinosaurs 65 million years ago. It depicts the life of a dinosaur family of five and their later encounter in an earthquake, volcano eruption, tsunami and sandstorms after the earth is hit by meteorites.

Presented by the Nanning Baling Technology Co., Ltd. and the Beijing Performance and Arts Group, the heavily-invested show has created a panoramic view with technological means.

The Monkey King -- Havoc in Heaven

Time: March 10, 17 and 23

Place: China Puppet Theater

Introduction:

The puppet show is adapted from the chapters of "Journey to the West," one of the four classic Chinese novels and was written by Wu Cheng'en in the 1590s. In the novel, the Monkey King with supernatural powers is responsible for protecting a pilgrim on a journey to retrieve the Buddhist sutras from India.
